Key Tips

  • What is the difference between SLA and LCD resin printers? SLA (Stereolithography) uses a laser—precise but slower, high detail. LCD uses a screen mask—faster, lower cost, similar quality. Both produce similar print quality; LCD is more affordable.
  • Why do my resin prints fail mid-print? Build plate not properly leveled, FEP film worn/damaged, or exposure time too short. Re-level plate, replace FEP film if scratched, and test exposure on scrap print.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SLA and LCD resin printers?

SLA (Stereolithography) uses a laser—precise but slower, high detail. LCD uses a screen mask—faster, lower cost, similar quality. Both produce similar print quality; LCD is more affordable.

Why do my resin prints fail mid-print?

Build plate not properly leveled, FEP film worn/damaged, or exposure time too short. Re-level plate, replace FEP film if scratched, and test exposure on scrap print.

How do I remove supports without damaging the part?

Use flush cutters at base of support—cut close to the part, then sand attachment points smooth with 400-600 grit. For delicate features, cut 1-2mm from part, finish with sandpaper.

Can I reuse IPA for multiple prints?

Yes, but resin accumulates. Filter used IPA through coffee filters back into a container, or use dedicated 'dirty' IPA for first wash, fresh IPA for second wash.

What causes sticky/tacky resin after curing?

Under-cured from insufficient UV exposure time. Increase UV curing time by 5-10 minutes, or ensure build plate is correctly positioned in chamber for consistent exposure.

Can I use water-washable resin instead of IPA?

Yes. Water-washable resin is gentler, no solvent smell, but requires washing immediately after printing. Dry thoroughly after washing to prevent water spotting during cure.
